So there won’t be any snow or ice to worry about the next few days. But that extra heavy coat might be helpful.
WSB meteorologist Kirk Mellish says we will see lows down in the 20s for the next couple of days and the NW suburbs will struggle to make the low 40s today.
“Temperatures are tumbling with the polar cold front that passed through the area,” said Mellish. “But it’s a dry front, so no precipitation.”
So that’s a plus because it will be plenty cold enough.
Mellish is calling for early morning lows Tuesday morning around 27. There will be plenty of sunshine later, but highs will only get up to around 44. The wind chill factor will be in the teens and 20s all morning.
The cold weather remains in place tonight with lows again in the 24-27 range.
It will get a little warmer Wednesday and Thursday with highs back in the 50s and lows into the 30s and 40s. That is until the next cold front.
“The next chance of rain comes with the next cold front that arrives Friday,” says Mellish.
With that cold front is a 60 percent chance of rain on Friday and highs in the mid 50s.
But the temperature roller coaster continues into the weekend, with highs in the mid 40s and lows back into the 20s, says Mellish and we will have to watch the precipitation type closely in the transition.
