Mayor: Atlanta is Making a Come-Back

ATLANTA (WSB Radio/AP) -- Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed says the city is resurgent and on the come-back after the worst recession since the Great Depression.

Reed said in his annual state of the city address Tuesday that he will spend his second year in office making Atlanta's recreation centers into facilities that focus not only on athletics, but on educational, cultural and artistic training.

In his first year, Reed fulfilled his promise of re-opening the 33 recreation centers. Now, the mayor says he wants to transform them into ``Centers of Hope.''

Coca-Cola Co. Chairman Muhtar Kent had announced that the company is donating $1 million toward the project.
