Martial arts teacher accused of molestation

By Condace Pressley and Veronica Waters

ATLANTA, Ga. —

Classes are canceled at a Tae-Kwon-Do academy in Cobb County.  The owner has been arrested, accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Parents of students at the academy on East Piedmont say the email is flying back and forth as they learn about the charges against Master Shim.

"The whole program is geared at the kids for focus, for confidence, for all the standards you'd want your kids to grow up to be," said parent Jeannie Barry.

Master Shim whose legal name is Young Jin Shim is held without bond in the Cobb County jail for having a sexual relationship with a young girl.

The girl recently came forward saying she'd had sex with Shim in 2009. The girl said the two had intimate contact both at Shim's martial arts studio in Marietta and his home in Roswell. According to the police report which indicates the relationship ended when the girl was 14 and had lasted about a year.

The report also said that when confronted, the accused admitted to the various acts.

The 32-year-old Shim is being held without bond on an aggravated child molestation charge in Cobb County.  Roswell Police detectives are also working the case.

Police now hope parents of other students at the academy will ask questions and let them know about any other possible inappropriate contact.

Police ask that if anyone has information about this or any other possible criminal allegations, that they contact Cobb's Crimes Against Children unit at (770) 801-3470.
