The 2-year-old Winder boy hit on the head by a tree limb will have major surgery Monday at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Tripp Halsted's father Bill Halsted tells Channel 2 Action News doctors will replace part of Tripp's skull that was removed to let his brain swell after the accident.

"They're going to be able to fix that and close it back up properly, one layer at a time," Halstead said.

Doctors will also move Tripp's feeding tube from his nose to his stomach and inject Botox into some muscles to help them relax.

The surgery is expected to take four hours.

"We're a little nervous about it, but excited to have another step down," Halstead explained. "One step closer to home is how we look at it."

The 2-year-old critically injured when a tree limb came crashing down onto his head during Hurricane Sandy.

Bill and his wife, Stacy, continue to update the more than 100,000 people following their son's recovery on Facebook

Tripp is expected to be in the ICU for at least 24 hours. If all goes well, doctors say his skull will heal-- just like any other broken bone -- in about six to eight weeks.
