Major Atlanta corporations supporting TSPLOST

Some of the biggest companies in Atlanta are throwing their weight and their money behind the TSPLOST.

A new list, released on Monday, shows that local major corporations are the biggest supporters of the proposed transportation sales tax.

Companies like Georgia Power, Coca Cola, and even Cox Enterprises, the Parent company for WSB, are among the biggest donors of the multi-million dollar campaign that's hoping to get voters to say yes to TSPLOST.

Dave Stockert, Campaign Chairman and CEO of Post Properties says, "by and large the money has been contributed by companies.  Corporations are the ones that can do it, but it's not about taking the bread off the table for a family.  Everybody pays for congestion already."

Stockert agrees that contractors and big businesses will directly gain from transportation projects that will be funded by TSPLOST.

"They've been decimated... and would like to put people back to work," says Stockert.

But opponents of the transportation sales tax, like State Senator Vincent Fort say, "they're trying to buy this election." Opponents claim big business and contractors are the ones pumping money into the campaign which urges Georgia voters to vote YES on election day, July 31st.

So far, Citizens for Transportation Mobility have raised $6.5 million in their pro tax effort.  But, recent polls indicate that support for TSPLOST is slipping.  Voters go to the polls next Tuesday.
