BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. —
A local Walmart customer says he stuck his finger with a needle in a bag of birdseed he bought at the store.
It's the same Cartersville Walmart where several customers say they found syringes in clothing purchased at the store two years ago.
On Monday, Channel 2's Diana Davis talked to customers about the latest incident.
All are wondering how and why a syringe could have gotten into a bag of birdseed.
"I think it's crazy. Really, like kids could get hurt. Anything could happen. Your grandma could be in the store shopping and get stuck by a needle. You never know what people use the needles for," Kenneth Nation told Davis.
"They need to do something about it. But I still shop there (I haven't) found (any) needles," customer Marilyn Serrano said.
The latest incident was reported to the Bartow County Sheriff's Department by an Adairsville man.
The man told police he took the bag of birdseed home, opened it, stuck his hand into the bag and felt the stick of the needle.
It comes after a rash of incidents in late 2011. Back then, several syringes were discovered tucked into different articles of clothing.
A Bartow County sheriff's deputy told Davis he does not think the latest incident is related. Rosa Alavarez told Davis the incident unnerves her since she shops at the Walmart for her young children.
"I think they need to take care of that stuff because it's really bad. I shop there and it's not good," she said.
Another faithful Walmart customer told Davis he believes it's sabotage. Clive Smart is a former London police officer who has lived in Bartow County for decades.
"It seems there's anti-Walmart feeling in America. People are trying to disrupt the economy of a store like Walmart.
As for that rash of incidents with syringes a couple of years ago, the Sheriff's Department never made an arrest and thinks they may have been dealing with copycats.
