A Clayton County restaurant with three years of troubled inspection reports just last month scored a 50 out of 100.

Channel 2's Carol Sbarge found that the Waffle House at 8765 Tara Blvd. in Jonesboro made changes and earlier this month, inspectors returned and gave them a much better score.

But that wasn't the case on the previous inspection.

The popular restaurant was rated by inspectors as unsatisfactory, earning a 50 -- the lowest grade a restaurant can get in Georgia.

Sbarge reviewed the incidents listed in the inspection report. Some of the violations include the person in charge not being able to demonstrate knowledge regarding proper temperatures for beef, pork and eggs. The inspector saw a female employee not wash her hands before putting on gloves when working with food, according to the report.

Inspectors also observed an accumulation of black mold on the inside of an ice maker and saw an employee mix a sanitizing solution in a container that is sometimes used for food.

Sbarge went to the restaurant to ask about the low score, but employees only referred her to their corporate office for a comment.

The Waffle House location has had a history of lower inspection scores. In 2012, it scored an 81, which is a B. In 2011,it scored a 72, which is a C.

Waffle House's corporate office said in a statement, "We make every effort to provide a clean, safe environment for all customers and associates. Any issues identified are investigated and corrective action is taken immediately."

The Waffle House was reinspected on Feb. 8, receiving a 97, which is an A.
