MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. —
Two mothers are accused of getting on school buses this week and police said one of them was armed with a bat.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg School police said that each bus has a no trespassing sign on it, making it clear those who aren't students or staff shouldn't walk on. On Tuesday and Wednesday, police said parents have crossed the line, so they are reminding parents it's not OK.
Clifford Murray was walking his sons home from the bus stop when Eyewitness News told him about two parents that police said will be charged after they acted inappropriately on buses this week.
"I don't think it's appropriate for parents," said Murray, a parent in a different school.
On Tuesday, police in Huntersville say they were called to a bus stop for reports of a mother on a bus with a baseball bat.
"She had a bat in her hand and approached a student with some concerns," said CMS Detective Kenny Lynch.
Lynch said the concerns were about an issue between some students and her daughter. No one was hurt and the victims' family didn't press charges, but CMS police said they will charge her with trespassing and disorderly conduct.
On Wednesday, police said they responded to a different mother on a bus, this time in Mint Hill. CMS police said when the bus driver told the mother to get off the bus, she allegedly starting cursing and screaming at the driver.
Police said when she wouldn't leave, the driver shut the door and drove to the school where an officer was waiting.
"Anytime we have an unauthorized person board a bus we are concerned by that and take it very seriously," Lynch said.
CMS police said the mother will be charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct as well
"Things can escalate and sometimes get out of control and we're not just concerned for the safety of one child; we're concerned for the safety of the entire bus," Lynch said.
CMS police said it's not typical to have two incidents like this in just a matter of days.
Eyewitness News spoke with the Mint Hill mother. She told us she did not swear at the driver and only got on the bus briefly to tell her son to sit down.
