Two East Cobb teens die in fiery crash

By Daphne Young

East Cobb, GA —

Two teens are killed in a fatal crash in Cobb County early Sunday morning.

Police say the driver of a silver 2001 Volvo S60 was heading northbound on Sandy Plains Road at a high rate of speed when he apparently lost control.

The car crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a large brick sign at Kinjac Drive, where the vehicle caught on fire, killing both the driver and his passenger.

Investigators have identified the driver as 19-year-old Stephen Nolasco of Marietta.  His passenger was 18-year-old Matthew Bennett, also of Marietta.

Channel 2 Action news reports both were popular athletes who graduated from Sprayberry High School last year, and were attending Georgia Perimeter College together.
