Atlanta, GA —
There's been a rash of tailgate thefts across several metro Atlanta counties.
Captain Tony Ranieri with the Spalding County Sheriff's Department says they've had 20 reports of stolen tailgates.
"Fayette County, Henry County, Pike County, I think they're the only counties and also within the city limits of Griffin and out in Spalding County," said Ranieri.
He says ripping off tailgates is as simple as unhooking a few bolts.
"Take them off, throw them in the back of a truck," said Ranieri.
Ranieri says they've found a lot of stolen tailgates at a salvage yard in Spalding County. He declined to release the name because the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with a missing tailgate should call the Spalding County Sheriff's Department at 770-467-4282 and ask for extension 213 to make arrangements with investigators to look at the tailgates that have been recovered.
