Synthetic pot found system of drowning victim

By Daphne Young

Atlanta —

The medical examiner's report has been released this week of the Cobb County teenager who drowned this summer and was found with synthetic marijuana in his system.

Channel 2 Action News has acquired the report, which confirms that 17-year-old Kevn Mui's death was an accidental drowning, but "synthetic pot was found in the teen's system.

The report goes on to say, that "it is unclear what roles the drugs may have played in the actions of the deceased prior to his death."

WSB TV Ross Cavitt spoke to the Director of Georgia's Poison Center who says the teens prescription meds may have combined with the synthetic pot, and possibly led to his death.

"These kind of products do kill.  Not that they can kill, they will kill.  And, in the right situation whether it's an underlying medical condition, other drugs that they may be taking, a serious drug chemical reaction could take place, that could be fatal," says  Dr. Gaylord Lopez, with Georgia's Poison Center.

New laws went into effect this year, but Dr. Lopez says teens are still finding ways to get the drugs.

"We're still hearing reports of some of these shops getting in this stuff in maybe on a Thursday and not keeping them on their shelves by Saturday afternoon, they're selling out still. says Dr. Lopez.
