Officers and deputies from the Barnesville Police Department recovered nine pounds of synthetic marijuana, with a street value of over $100,000.

Major Brad White, Chief Deputy of the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office also says they arrested Marcus Antonio Richardson of Barnesville, GA and he faces charges for violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act.

Members from the Lamar County Sheriff's Narcotics Task Force and Department of Natural Resources, through a cooperative investigation, executed a search warrant at 140C Atlanta Street in Barnesville and made the discovery.

In March of this year, Governor Nathan Deal signed a bill outlawing the sale of all types of synthetic marijuana.

Major White says the bill, State Bill 370, was named "Chase's Law" in honor of Chase Burnett a 16-year-old McIntosh High School student who was found dead after reportedly smoking the substance.
