Peachtree Road in Buckhead has reopened after being closed in both directions for about an hour Wednesday morning as police investigated a suspicious package.

The incident was taking place at a shopping complex at Peachtree and 25th Street, just north of Brookwood Station. The Atlanta police bomb squad was on the scene.

Gregory Hutchins, who works across the street from the site, called the incident “a little uncomfortable … I wish [police] had been a little more informative.”

According to police dispatch logs, the suspicious package was a blue suitcase found outside a building. The package was in bushes adjacent to the driveway to the Joel & Associates law firm.

Peachtree Road was reopened just before 10 a.m. after a police bomb squad detonated a charge to blow up the package.

Atlanta police Sgt. Curtis Davenport said the package was found to contain “nothing threatening — clothes, magazines, personal effects.”

“We treat each one of these calls as if it’s the real deal, and we’re going to continue to do that because the one time we don’t, it may be the real deal,” Davenport said. “It’s far better to be safe than sorry.”
