Riverdale man wins $1M in Powerball drawing

One Clayton County man's holiday wish list will get to include all the goodies he hoped for this Christmas, as he wins $1 million from the Georgia Lottery.  David Jackson of Riverdale has won $1 million from Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, a record jackpot of $588 million.

Jackson, 33, matched the first five winning numbers to clinch a $1 million second prize. Two winning tickets sold in Arizona and Missouri split the $588 million Powerball jackpot.

Georgia’s lucky winner claimed his prize this morning at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.

Winning numbers from the historic Nov. 28 Powerball drawing were: 5-16-22-23-29 and the Powerball was 6.

“I would have been happy winning $100,” Jackson said. “This will definitely change my life.”

Georgia Food Mart #0001, located at 377 Highway 138 S.W. in Riverdale, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.

Jackson discovered his windfall on the Georgia Lottery’s website about two hours after the televised drawing.

The father of six said that already he’d planned to be with his family over the holidays. Now he anticipates buying just about “whatever they want.”

“Their list is as thick as the Yellow Pages, but they’ll get what they need, which are educational toys,” Jackson shared. “As long as the family is happy, I’m OK.”

All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program.  More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
