Atlanta, Ga. —

Fulton County police have identified the 5-year-old girl who was killed Tuesday night during a hit-and-run accident on Campbellton Road.

Police say Ja'Leah Felix and her older sibling were crossing the street, heading to a park, when the girl lost her shoe in the roadway and tried to go back to get it.  When she attempted to retrieve her shoe from the street, a car struck her. The girl was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where she died on Wednesday. Ja'Leah's aunt tells Channel 2 Action News the girl lived in College Park with her father and stepmother.

Authorities are still searching for the driver who struck the child. Police say they are looking for a dark-colored pickup or SUV-style truck.

Tyronn Wilkins witnessed the crash and ran to help the girl.

"I tried what I could. I couldn't get her to respond. Finally, the paramedics came," said Wilkins.

Authorities are urging the driver to come forward.
