Athens, GA —
An Athens-Clarke County judge sentences 340-pound Lonneshia Shafaye Appling to five years in prison for felony shoplifting.
Appling was caught trying to cart bacon and beer out of a Piggly Wiggly last May. She squirted pepper spray to make her getaway and punched a couple employees who chased her outside. Arresting officers confiscated the beer, five packs of bacon, another five packs of cheese and two packs of chicken wings.
Three weeks earlier, Appling stole six bottles of men's body wash from a CVS.
Once, during a previous arrest, she stripped naked and claimed she had AIDS. Since 2006, Appling has six prior shoplifting convictions in Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties.
Her plea deal calls for her sentences to run concurrently.
