A Canton man has died in a gruesome accident at a poultry plant. Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office tells WSB they were called to Pilgrim's Pride on Univeter Road around two o'clock Tuesday afternoon.

"From what I understand, a box or something had gotten caught up in a piece of the machinery, and he was trying to dislodge that box," said Baker. "In doing so, somehow he got caught up between two pieces of equipment and was killed."

The man, a resident of Canton, died on the scene.

"No foul play is suspected. It appears to be a tragic accident," said Baker. "Obviously, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) has been contacted and will be conducting their own interviews and investigations."
