An Alpharetta mother and her newborn baby are resting comfortably after she gave birth to him on Georgia Highway 400 early Monday, officials said.
 
The baby’s father, Jose Francisco, called 911 just before 5 a.m.
 
“I need an ambulance,” he told the dispatcher, before a Spanish-speaking interpreter could take over.
 
As Ivon Garcia screamed in the background, Francisco described in detail how his son was making an early entrance into the world.

“My wife is about to deliver a baby,” the interpreter told dispatchers.  “It’s already coming out.”
 
By the time medic Thomas Coleman got to the scene at Ga. 400 and Glenridge Connector, Joseph Francisco had already arrived, weighing 7 pounds and 12 ounces.
 
“It’s kind of weird to pull up on that,” Coleman told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik.  “At that time, your heart drops because you see the baby.”
 
Coleman said Joseph wasn’t breathing and was still attached to his mother by umbilical cord.
 
“We resuscitated the baby back with stimuli and suctioning out mouth and nasal,” said Coleman.  “I’d hate to lose any of my kids I got now, so I know it would be a heartbreak.”
 
Coleman said once Joseph was revived, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
 
Katherine Watson, a spokeswoman for Northside Hospital, told Petchenik that Joseph and his mother were doing well Monday afternoon.
 
Coleman said the situation left an impression on him.
 
“It was an experience,” he said. “That’s all I can say about that.”
