Metro Atlanta forclosures drop

Atlanta —

Over the first half of 2012, foreclosure notices drop in metro Atlanta.  Figures released Monday by Kennesaw-based Equity Depot show notices from January through June are down 12.4 percent compared to this same period a year ago.

AJC Sunday business editor Henry Unger tells WSB, the numbers are still high compared to pre-recession days.

"We are at 49,423 [notices], so if that repeats itself over the next six months, that's right at 100,000 foreclosure notices," Unger says.  "In normal times, we were dealing with around 50,000, so we're still double what's normal."

Gwinnett County leads among core metro counties with 1532 notices in June, followed by Fulton (1254) and DeKalb County (1158).
