Marietta man charged with vandalizing cars in Hobgood Park

By Jennifer Griffies

Cobb County, GA —

A month-long shopping spree has come to an abrupt end for a Marietta man.  Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office tells WSB 54-year-old Angelo Rivens has been charged with 30 counts of financial transaction fraud and four counts of entering an auto.

"Between the dates of October 12th and October 17th, Cherokee County sheriff's deputies took reports from different citizens about four citizens who had had either their purse or their wallet stolen from their vehicles while they were parked at Hobgood Park," said Baker.

Investigators tracked down Rivens through surveillance video from some of the places he was using the victims' credit cards.

"He was purchasing all types of things and it appears he made 36 transactions with these stolen credit cards.  He was buying everything from cigarettes to big screen tv's to DVD players to household items," said Baker.

Baker says they're looking to see if there may other victims.

"Right now, we don't have him connected with any other entering autos in Cherokee County.  I mean he lives in Cobb, so it's certainly possible he was doing this somewhere else," said Baker.

Baker encourages people to lock their doors and says that the victims made it easy for him to get their stuff.

"It doesn't appear that he broke into any of these vehicles.  Some of them were locked, but had their windows cracked.  Some of them were left unlocked and he just targeted the vehicles that he could get into," said Baker.
