The line for early voters at Gwinnett County's main elections office in Lawrencville snaked around the shopping center Friday nearly to Kroger.

More than 20,000 people have voted early in person in Gwinnett County with the longest wait times reported on Friday.

Lines were up to two-and-a-half hours long between 8:30 a.m. and noon, at the main elections office in Lawrenceville.

“I didn’t think there would be a line, quite honestly,” says voter Mike Ball. “Absentee ballots are a hassle so I figured I’d come out here while everybody was at work, and that was a fail.”

Others were not as shocked by the long wait times.

“I know it’s a critical election and people are excited about it… I knew a lot of people would come out that’s why I’m here now,” Derek Oladokun tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish.

Gwinnett Elections Supervisor Lynn Ledford says she expects the crowds to continue even with the addition of four satellite locations beginning Saturday: Centerville Community Center in Snellville, George Pierce Park Community Recreation Center in Suwanee, Dacula Park Activity Building in Dacula, and Lucky Shoals Park Community Recreation Center in Norcross.

All five locations will be open for Saturday voting from 9am to 4pm.  The satellite locations will then be open 9am to 7pm Monday through Friday next week , with the main elections office open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  For more information about statewide early voting locations go to http://www.sos.ga.gov/pressrel/

Absentee ballots are still available through noon on Friday, November 2.  The first step is to complete an application that can be obtained online at www.gwinnettelections.com or by phone at 678.226.7210 and then submit the application to the Elections Office by mail, fax or email.
