Former NFL linebacker Reginald Burnette has resigned as Mount Vernon Presbyterian School’s head football coach following an arrest last month for public indecency.
Burnette, 44, who played three years in the NFL for Green Bay and Tampa Bay, was arrested Jan. 29 in an east Cobb subdivision for allegedly exposing himself to an adult female, a misdemeanor, said Cobb County police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman.
He submitted his resignation last week, Mount Vernon spokesman Allison Toller confirmed Tuesday to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Burnette was placed on indefinite leave following his arrest.
“We have begun our search for his replacement and remain committed to selecting the best possible candidate to serve as Mount Vernon’s new varsity football head coach,” Toller said in an email.
The school, located in Sandy Springs, educates students in preschool through the 12th grade. Burnette’s alleged crime did not involve Mount Vernon students or any school employees.
The former All-American at the University of Houston is out of jail on $1,000 bond.
