The jury deliberated for about seven hours over two days before finding Woodard guilty of two counts of felony murder, two counts of malice murder, two counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Security in Judge Daniel Coursey's courtroom was extremely tight, with 15 uniforms deputies standing guard near Woodard.

The penalty phase of the trial begins on Monday.

Officers Eric Barker and Ricky Bryant were working off-duty, but in uniform, at the Victory Crossing Apartments on January 15' 2008.

They were in the parking lot when they smelled marijuana and tracked the odor to a parked car.  In it were Woodard and a friend.

When Barker and Bryant attempted to get Woodard out of the car a scuffle ensued and the two officers were shot.

Woodard claims the shooting was in self-defense.

When the penalty phase begins, the district attorney's office expects to call as many as 50 witnesses, in addition to seven others who will read victim impact statements.  They portion of the proceedings could take three to five days.  The defense, who will claim Woodard has a psychological impairment, is expected to take two days to present their case.

Among the state witnesses is one who is currently stationed In Iraq and cannot return to Georgia to testify.  The district attorney is hopeful the man can testify by way of Skype.

Once the penalty phase is complete, the same jurors will have to decide whether Woodard should receive life in prison or a death sentence.
