Hill's election tough call for Gov. Deal

Atlanta —

Clayton County's sheriff-elect faces nearly three dozen felony charges, putting the governor in an interesting position.

"It is always a difficult scenario for the governor," say Brian Robinson, a spokesman for Governor Nathan Deal's office, "when he is being asked to overrule a decision of the voters."

Victor Hill -- the former sheriff and now sheriff-elect of Clayton County -- faces 32 felony racketeering charges. If those charges have not been resolved by the time he takes the oath of office, Robinson tells Channel 2 Action News a panel consisting of two sheriffs and an attorney general will decide whether Hill will be suspended.

Hill's attorney, Drew Findling, says the case is biased.

"I've never seen anything like this," Findling announced at a press conference.

"Sheriff-elect Hill was indicted following an investigation lead by a Clayton County detective who was previously fired by Hill in 2004," says Findling.
