Gwinnett County, GA —
At least one student faces criminal charges after last week's brawl following the football game between Peachtree Ridge and Collins Hill high schools.
Gwinnett Schools spokesman Jorge Quintana says 17-year-old Darrion Spence, a student at Peachtree Ridge, will be charged with affray for actively participating in the fight. He also faces disciplinary action from the school system that could include suspension.
Quintana tells WSB's Sandra Parrish the investigation is continuing.
"We might have other students who might be charged or face disciplinary action depending on what the school resource officer finds out," he says.
The incident report from the Gwinnett Police Department says between 150 and 200 students were involved in the brawl that left at least one student with visible injuries.
A second student was injured by an officer when he refused to cooperate. He was not arrested after police determined he was trying to assist the other teen who was being beaten.
Quintana says a comment on social media apparently led to the fight.
He says because of the rivalry between the two schools, extra officers were in attendance at the game. They included two school resource officers and a dozen Gwinnett Police officers, which is standard protocol for such games.
Spence will be given the option of turning himself in or otherwise will be picked up by authorities and taken to jail.
