Gunman locks down Woodstock school

It was, perhaps, the perfect example of how on-edge schools and parents are after the horrific elementary school shooting tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut last week. Mountain Road Elementary School in Woodstock was locked down at approximately 6:50 a.m. Wednesday morning after school officials got a report of an armed man about a half-mile away. The elementary school immediately went into lockdown. Arriving buses were sent to a nearby high school. No vehicles were allowed on or off campus and the search was on for the armed man. He turned out to be “a hunter armed with a bow,” according to Barbara Jacoby at Cherokee County Schools. She said Cherokee County deputies determined the man was no threat to students. After it was all over, parents were notified by email and in a letter sent home with kids. Some apparently felt they should have been told more sooner. “But as soon as the school had the information and felt they could tell parents that information, they did,” Jacoby said.
