Gov. Deal working to attract film industry

By Peter Konenkamp

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal says the state remains challenged in many areas, but he is working to make the state more competitive by attracting new industries and bringing movie and television productions here.

One TV series calling Georgia home is AMC's "The Walking Dead."

Deal told business leaders at Thursday's University of Georgai Economic Outlook Luncheon in Atlanta, "good things are happening."  That's mostly thanks to tax credits approved by the General Assembly.  The Governor expects the movie and television industry to continue pumping dollars into the state's economy.

Deal also says the deepening of the port at Savannah will keep the state competitive with neighboring ports in South Carolina.

Deal concedes uncertainty in the economy my stifle some investments. He is hopeful Congress and the President will avoid the looming "fiscal cliff," putting Georgia in a good position to take advantage of those opportunities.
