Ga. Poison Center issues new warning

By Amanda Moyer

Atlanta, GA —

A warning for parents about laundry detergent pods after the Georgia Poison Center says more kids are eating it, thinking it is candy.

Parent Jessica Sutton says her 18-month-old daughter picked up one of the packets that had fallen from a laundry room shelf.

"She was throwing up, she was crying, she had detergent all the way down her body.  It was not good," said Sutton.

Georgia Poison Center Director, Dr. Gaylord Lopez, tells Channel 2 Action News they've seen an increase in emergency calls related to the pods.

"Nausea, vomiting, they've gotten drowsy.  In some cases, fluid has gotten into their lungs and they have difficulty breathing," said Lopez.

Sutton says her daughter was lucky.

"It's very scary because they said it could cause the throat, tongue and lips to swell where you can't breathe," said Sutton.
