A Fulton County deputy and three detention officers have been charged with smuggling drugs and cell phones into the jail. 

Fulton County Sheriff's Deputy Marvie Trevino Dingle, 34,  and detention officers Akil Scott, 31, Derick Deshun Frazier, 31, and Brian Shelby Anthony, 30, of accepting payments to deliver contraband into the Fulton County jail.

U.S. Attorney Sally Yates says the officers abandoned their oaths and sold their badges by taking payoffs.

"The indictment alleges that these officers accepted payments that range from several hundred dollars to a $1,000 to smuggle cocaine and marijuana as well as cell phones and cigarettes into the jail and to deliver the contraband to inmates," said Yates.

According to the indictment, Anthony was charged with separate counts from the others for using his authority to net more than $26,000 while trying to get or distribute varying amounts of marijuana and cocaine earlier this year.

Four non-jail workers were also charged with distribution of cocaine outside the jail.

FBI Special Agent in Charge, Brian Lamkin, says these charges are the result of an undercover operation.

"Our committment to public corruption to address these issues is our top criminal investigating priority within the FBI," said Lamkin.

Fulton County Sheriff Ted Jackson says a problem at the jail was recognized last summer and that's when the FBI was called in to help launch the undercover sting.

"Some of these employees are conflicted, they don't know what side of the bars they belong on, so we are going to help them make that decison," said Jackson.

The indictments follow a raid on the Fulton County jail Thursday morning.  Thursday's raid comes just over a week after an inmate was shot by another inmate.
