Former GA Tech student pleads guilty for inflating his grades

Atlanta, GA —

A former Georgia Institute of Technology student has pled guilty for illegally logging into the University's grading system and changing his grades.

In July 2011, Shayan Panjwani was attending Georgia Tech and school offiicials say he accessed the intitute's grading system without authorization and increased his recorded grades in two classses.  A graduate student noticed the discrepancy and reported it to Georgia Tech.   "As they were looking at the grades they noticed a big jump in t he grades and realized that was a problem and contacted the authorities right away," says Lauren Kane with the State Attorney General's office, who assisted in the prosecution case against Panjwani.

Panjwani has since confessed upon being confronted and is no longer enrolled at Georgia Tech.

On Wednesday, Judge Karen Woodson sentenced Panjwani9 under the First Offender Act to two years probation and ordered him to pay a fine of $1,000.00.
