Roswell’s “chicken man” apparently decided to blow up his home instead of being evicted – ending his long standing fight with the city.

Andrew Wordes, 53, starting battling with the city of Roswell in 2009 when he was first cited for raising chickens in a residential area.

Wordes spent three months in jail last year. When he was released, he said the home was ransacked and several high-powered weapons were stolen.

In an interview with the AJC last month, the “chicken man” blamed his problems on the city.

"I'm still trying to get this resolved, but it doesn't look like it's going to be happy," Wordes had said.

He was behind on his montage payments and was about to evicted Monday from his home on Alpine Drive.

Around 12 p.m., as Fulton County Marshals gathered outside his home, Wordes called the cell phone of Channel 2 Action News reporter Mike Petchenik, who was also outside the home. Wordes demanded the marshals get off his property. Petchenik says Wordes told him, if they didn't, "it ain't going to be pretty."

"Once he advised us to leave his property, we retreated," Antonio Johnson with the Fulton County Marshal's Office said.

Something inside the house then exploded.

Authorities have confirmed a body was found inside the home, but it has not been identified.

After the fire was cleared, a bomb squad was called back to the home because a potentially explosive device was found.
