Dunwoody, GA —
Dunwoody Police are looking for a woman suspected of hitting Walmart stores all over metro Atlanta in an iPad scam.
Officer Tim Fecht tells WSB the latest incident happened on January 21st, at the Walmart on Ashford-Dunwoody Road where 30-year-old Ebony Washington purchased several items including an iPad 4, only to return everything less than an hour later.
"When the store employees went to restock the item, they realized that instead of the iPad being inside the box, it was actually notepads that were put in there," said Fecht.
Security officers at the store recognized Washington and said she had been committing similar crimes all over metro Atlanta as well as the East Coast.
"The total loss in the metro area recently is roughly around $8,000 and Walmart estimates that their total loss due to her actions are around $125,000," said Fecht.
21 arrest warrants have been issued for Washington in North Carolina, New Jersey, Indiana, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Georgia.
"Other stores that were affected by the loss were Walmarts in Marietta, Woodstock, Acworth, Dallas, and Austell, also, Douglasville, Newnan, College Park, and of course the city of Dunwoody," said Fecht.
Police believe Washington is part of a larger theft ring based out of New York.
