ALPHARETTA, Ga. —
Fulton County Animal Services workers said they pulled more than 30 cats from an Alpharetta home after a resident called to say she couldn't care for them.
Workers and volunteers went to the home on Rucker Road and said they found cats throughout the house, including in between the walls.
Crews had to wear hazardous materials gear due to the unsanitary conditions inside. According to Animal Services, workers found cat feces up to 6 inches deep inside the house.
They said the woman who lived there died in June 2012 and according to a neighbor, the woman's daughter had been coming by regularly to feed the cats.
Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri spoke to the woman by phone who didn't want to be identified but said she had been struggling trying to find a home for the cats since her mother's death.
Workers spent two days trying to get all the cats out of the house to take them to a veterinarian to be checked and treated.
"Somebody said over there they were just going to get little cage traps and there were a couple that were hiding and they couldn't get them," a neighbor told Viteri.
He said the cats looked to be healthy.
Calls to Fulton County to learn the cats' condition and whether they will be up for adoption weren't immediately returned.
