By Mike Morris, AJC

A dog perished early Tuesday in a Cobb County house fire, but not before saving his owner's life.Channel 2 Action News reported that after the fire broke out in the neighborhood off Chastain Road, the homeowner's boxer, Duncan, began barking, waking up his owner.

The homeowner, whose name has not been released, got out of the house without injury.

He told Channel 2 that he tried to drag Duncan out of the burning house, but was unable to get the dog to leave.

The house on Joel Drive was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

"All windows had fire exposing out of them, and we had fire in the garage and utility room," Cobb fire Lt. Mike Bell told the station. "We already had fire coming through the roof."

Fire crews have not determined what caused the blaze.
