By Andrew Spencer

Atlanta —

As the hammer falls in a police corruption investigation, one defense lawyer says the government needs to spend more time solving crime and less time creating it.

Attorney Steven Berne represents one of 10 police officers indicted on allegations they tried to protect drug dealers in exchange for cash. Berne tells Channel 2 Action News his client, Atlanta police officer Kelvin Allen, will plead not guilty to all the charges he faces.

"From the information I've been given so far from the government," says Berne, "the only conclusion I can make is that Mr. Allen is not guilty of all charges."

The indictment charges Allen with three counts of extortion and three counts of attempting to distribute a substance containing cocaine.
