Cobb County Could Close 13 Libraries

By Jennifer Griffies

WSB RADIO-Cobb County Commissioners are proposing closing 13 libraries in an effort to close the budget shortfall.

Cobb County needs to make up an almost 32-million-dollar shortfall, so they're proposing shutting all but four of the county's libraries. The plan also includes a.5 mill increase for the fire fund which would mean an additional $40 in taxes on a $200,000 house.

One idea to close the 32-million-dollar budget shortfall is to close all but four libraries in Cobb County leaving only Central, Mountain View, South Cobb, and West Cobb libraries open. Those closings as well as the closing of two pools and two senior centers would save about 2.6 million dollars:

The plan also calls for a tax increase and across the board cuts in county departments.
