CDC wants baby boomers to get tested for Hep C

By Sabrina Gibbons

Atlanta, GA —

Baby boomers account for about two-thirds of the 3.2 million Americans thought to be infected with Hepatitis C.   Dr. Bryce Smith with the Center for Disease Control says if all baby boomers are tested, the CDC estimates they'll find 800,000 baby boomers who are unaware they were infected.

Hepatitis C is the leading cause of liver transplants, as well as liver cancer, here in the United States.  The disease is also responsible for well over 15 thousand deaths in America each year.
