Bogus U.S. Marshall strikes again

By Jon Lewis

Bartow County, GA —

For the second time in months a man posing as a U.S. Marshal has robbed a homeowner in Bartow County.

The latest was on Saddle Club Drive late Monday night.

The victim told investigators she heard a knock on her door and then, seconds later, the suspect entered.

"He had a gun holster strapped to his right leg and he was holding another gun in his hand," says Sheriff's Sergeant Jonathan Rogers. "And he had a badge around his neck."

He told the elderly woman that he was a marshal, ordered her to stay seated on her couch, then demanded to know where her medications and money were.

He told her that other officers were waiting outside and, if she did not cooperate, they would come in and "tear the house apart,"

Minutes later a visitor came by the woman's house.

"He told the visitor to get up against the wall and told him he was a U.S. Marshal again," Rogers tells WSB.  "He searched the visitor, took his wallet and money, told his victims he'd be back in a few minutes and left."

As he fled he told the two victims that, if they tried leaving the house, they'd be shot.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 5'8 and 160 to 180 pounds.  Neighbors say they saw the man leave in what the believe is an older model, four door Toyota with dark, tinted windows.

Rogers says a similar robbery occurred in the Saddle Club Drive area last November.

A man posing as a marshal entered a home and demanded medications from the owner.  Investigators are trying to determine if it was the same suspect and whether he might have committed similar crimes in other jurisdictions.
