Atlanta, GA —
The man who was ambushed and beaten outside of a southwest Atlanta grocery store talks about his ordeal for the first time. Brandon White, 20, says he hadn't planned to report the incident to police, but now wants those responsible to face justice.
"I should have justice because those guys didn't feel my pain. They didn't care whether or not I was injured. I could've died that day. But by them going ahead and wanna release it and put it on the Internet, I feel that they wanted the attention themselves. They wanted to make themselves look like they were brave, look like they were strong. In my opinion, I'm the brave one," said White.
Meantime, an Atlanta police officer stood guard outside the grocery store on McDaniel Street.
"It's ridiculous. It's gross. It's offensive, it's got to be stopped," said the officer.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has announced he is doubling the reward from $5000 to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
"They're working very hard to bring these people to justice and I'm hopeful that by doubling the reward for information, which I'm doing right now, that we will encourage someone to come forward with more information regarding the identities of the individuals who beat this young man," said Reed.
The FBI may pursue the case as a federal hate crime because the men in the video are repeatedly shouting gay slurs at White.
