Atlanta shows sharp increase in traffic

Washington, DC —

This economy has kept cars off the roads in many metro areas, but not Atlanta.

While traffic jams have dropped in dozens of metro areas, Atlanta is among the cities with the biggest increase in traffic congestion in 2011.

Correspondent Vicki Barker says Atlanta is not one of the 10 worst cities for traffic congestion, believe it or not, but is fourth among metro areas experiencing the sharpest increase in congestion last year.

According to USA Today Traffic congestion dropped 30% last year from 2010 in the USA's 100 largest metropolitan areas, driven largely by higher gas prices and a spotty economic recovery.

It was the biggest drop since December 2007 at the beginning of the recession.
