Atlanta, Ga —

A new Pew Research Center shows that America's middle class is shrinking and overall residential segregation based on income is going up.

According to the report, the wealthy and poor sections of most metro areas in the U.S. are becoming more evident.  Paul Taylor is executive vice-president of the Pew Research Center and co-author of the report and he says cities like Houston, Dallas and New York saw the most residential segregation based on income.

Taylor also says among the 10 largest metro areas, Atlanta is one of the least segregated cities by income.  The most segregated city in the U.S. is Houston.

About 3 in 10 Americans living in low income live in majority lower income neighborhoods.  Among those Americans in the higher income bracket, 2 in 10 live on the other side of the tracks.
