Clayton County, GA —

Clayton County Sheriff-elect Victor Hill will take office January 1st, barring a conviction in the 32-count felony indictment against him.

But, Gov. Nathan Deal tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish that as soon as Hill is sworn in, he plans to appoint a three-member panel to look into whether Hill should be suspended.

Upon being sworn into office, I shall appoint two sheriffs and the attorney general to determine whether or not I should suspend him pending the disposition of the criminal charges that would still be pending against him,” says Deal.

According to the Georgia Sheriff’s Association, if the panel recommends suspension, the governor would appoint an interim sheriff for up to 90 days or even possibly until the criminal case is resolved.
