Two former employees of a sports apparel store at North Point Mall are accused of stealing and reselling almost $11,000 worth of merchandise, Channel 2 Action News reported Monday.

Jacob McDonald and Thomas Jones, who worked at College Station Sports, allegedly took a large amount of T-shirts, workout clothes and other apparel in June 2012, but the theft wasn’t discovered until January, Alpharetta police said.

A College Station employee from another location was shopping at the Plato’s Closet in Roswell and spotted hundreds of shirts with the tags still on them, authorities said.

Receipts from the second-hand store were key to tracking down the alleged culprits, who were arrested and charged with felony theft by taking in February.

Police said two people brought a “big box” of approximately 500 shirts last June to Plato’s Closet, which purchased 122 of them, according to the store’s records. The store believed it was purchasing legitimate excess merchandise, police told Channel 2. The two received a few hundred dollars for the merchandise, records show.

McDonald is out on bail, while Jones remains in custody at the Fulton County jail on $5,000 bond, according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office website.
