In this final week before election day, several metro counties are throwing the doors wide open at a number of polling places, hoping to catch voters early and cut down on long lines come November 6th.

In Canton, it may not be a record turnout so far, but Elections Supervisor Janet Munda is more than pleased.

“This is very comparable to 2008,” she said, surveying the line of voters queued out the front door of the elections office, waiting to cast early ballots.

The last presidential election in 2008 brought out the vote in record numbers in Cherokee County, Munda recalled. These voters recall as well, which explains why they were lining up so early.

“Why did you come so early,” one reporter asked a woman who had just cast her ballot at the Cherokee County Board of Elections office, “did you just want to avoid the lines on Election Day?”
 
“Of course!” She replied with a smile.

“And did you succeed in that?”

“I did! I got in and I got out,” she replied.

Cherokee County offers five early voting locations through Friday:

•    Hickory Flat Public Library
•    Rose Creek Public Library
•    Woodstock Public Library

Starting today, Cobb County offers nine:

•    East Cobb Government Service Center 4400 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta

•    Smyrna Community Center 200 Village Green Circle, Smyrna
•    NorthStar Church 3413 Blue Springs Road NW, Kennesaw
