Duluth residents react to commissioner's plea

By Mark Alewine

Duluth, GA —

Reaction to Lasseter's guilty plea was swift in Gwinnett County where she served as Mayor of Duluth for 13 years before her five year stint on the county commission.

Sabrina Smith with Gwinnett Citizens for Responsible Government told Channel 2 Action News, "The level of distrust is higher now than ever and every move they (local politicians) make, every vote they take is going to be scrutinized by the voters."

In an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Judy Wilson, a friend and president of the Duluth Historical Society said "It’s hard for me to even fathom Shirley knowingly doing anything wrong."

And a Duluth resident who lives in Lasseter's neighborhood, but didn't want to giver her name, said "if she has admitted it, then guess what; the fat lady sung."
