ATLANTA, Georgia —

You have likely noticed the commercials popping up during your favorite television shows or perhaps one of the nearly 40 billboards as you drive around the metro area.

Atlanta is one of a dozen cities where the advertising campaign by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is attempting to educate the public.

The commercials portray members as ordinary people from across the spectrum... teachers, businessmen, a 9/11 survivor... and end with them saying, "and I'm a Mormon".

"The 'I'm a Mormon' campaign effort actually started back in 2009 after a study was done showing that many Americans didn't really know who Mormons were," says Bishop Robert Walton who leads the Shallowford congregation.

He tells WSB's Sandra Parrish that it has nothing to do with the presidential campaign and the two GOP candidates, Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman, who are both Mormon.

"It does not have anything to do with the two candidates that are running today... this is purely an ad campaign that has been around for a long time and it's come to the Atlanta market at this time," says Walton.

Kembé Sullivan has been a Mormon since 1995 and says the people portrayed in the commercials and their stories are inspirational.

"It's just making Mormons and people of our church seem real," she says.

Sullivan is among many who have posted their profiles on Mormon.org for people to view.

"I think there are just misconceptions and people need to be educated," she says.

The ad campaign will continue through March.
