King siblings wrapping up dispute

The King siblings are close to wrapping up their dispute over the future of their father's traveling Bible and Nobel Prize.

Wednesday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge said that Bernice, Dexter, and Martin Luther King, III, have made progress negotiating an agreement about what would happen with the items.  Last year, Bernice King accused her brothers of wanting to sell the Bible and Nobel medal of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The siblings have been battling it out in court.

At the status conference, McBurney said the siblings must hire a mediator- or at least designate mediator candidates for the court to approve- by June 30.  He ordered that mediation must be complete by September 30.

Tuesday, Martin III appeared on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, which airs on 104.1 FM (Cox Media Group station KISS 104) in Atlanta, and said the lawsuits had all been dropped.  He anticipated a settlement in the case this week, and said he never expects the siblings to fight like this ever again.

"We could be in court for other types of issues, but I really do not expect us to be back in court at each others' throats," said King.

King said all families have issues- it's just that theirs end up in the public space.  It took time to work through the issues, he added.

"I really do believe we've resolved all of these issues," he says.

The siblings never stopped talking throughout the disagreement.  He says they all come from strong King and Scott stock, and they were all very opinionated about the best way to honor their father's legacy.

Asked what he thought his father would say about the infighting, King replied, "I don't know that any of us can say what he would say.  I'm sure- I know he would be greatly disappointed."
