Gwinnett County police are investigating a shooting on Haynescrest Drive in Grayson.

A 14-year-old Gwinnett County boy might have been gunned down because thieves wanted a piece of his shoe collection.

That is one possible motive police are looking at in the death of Paul Sampleton, a Freshman at Grayson High School.

Sampleton was shot and killed during an apparent break-in Wednesday afternoon at the family’s home at 2706 Haynescrest Drive in Grayson.

One of Sampleton’s peers says the teen had an extensive shoe collection and frequented a Facebook page where people could buy and sell high-priced shoes.

Police do know the house was robbed, but they aren’t saying why.

"There's evidence of a robbery,” Gwinnett police Cpl. Jake Smith told News/Talk WSB. “We don't know if this was something interrupted by the victim or if this was possibly someone lying in wait for the victim.”

Smith says Sampleton’s father came home and found his son’s body.

"I just wish the best for his mom because she's down there breaking down,” Sampleton’s classmate and tutor LaTajisia Parris told Channel 2 Action News. “Before the situation went down we were both looking for him, calling people to see if they saw him on the bus or anything.”

Parris says Sampleton typically called her every day after school.

"Today, I just didn't get a call," she said.
