Gwinnett police: Man used stolen IDs at Best Buy

By Amanda Moyer

Gwinnett County police arrest a man who allegedly had stolen account numbers on numerous credit cards in his name.  They then realized the number of identity theft victims is much more widespread.

Corporal Jake Smith says Andre Williams was using the cards at Best Buys and admitted they were loaded with stolen account information.

"He was actually getting them possibly from a middle man and ultimately from overseas," said Smith.

Police say the information was purchased from a Russian website.  Internet security expert Don Jackson with Dell Secure Works tells Channel 2 Action News they are called "carding markets."

"You can buy them, multiple for a dollar. So a cup of coffee can get you a credit card account number," said Don Jackson with Dell Secure Works.

Williams is charged with multiple felonies, including forgery of financial transaction card.
