LILBURN —

Gwinnett County Police investigators now say a 20-year-old man, who was fatally shot by an officer Wednesday night, was pointing a BB gun at police.

The officer involved responded to a domestic dispute at the home on Southgate Circle in Lilburn after the family call 911 saying their son, Victor Charles Le, was threatening to commit robbery.

When the officer arrived, Le was walking down the driveway toward him with a gun in his hand.

“The son engaged the officer verbally and asked him why he was there,” Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith told News/Talk WSB’s Sandra Parrish. “He began yelling at him to leave and told him he was not needed.”

Smith says for two minutes the officer verbally commanded Le to drop the weapon.

When he pointed it at the officer, Le was shot once in the chest.  He died at the scene.

Le’s mother so was distraught, she was taken away in an ambulance.

The officer is on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
